SC79 binds to the plecktrin homology (PH) domain of Akt that mimics the binding of PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 to induce a conformational change in Akt that enhances phosphorylation and activation. SC79 induces cytosolic Akt signaling in cell based assays, and prevents neuronal death in a mouse model of stroke.
